About Joshua

Joshua Van Winkle was born in Key West, Florida, on February 4, 1994. Ever since Joshua was born he has been at the track or helping his father work in the shop. His first experiences in racing were with his dad racing across the state of Florida in the Mini-Stock division. Then in 1999, Joshua, along with his dad and mom, moved to North Carolina on a military transfer to Station Fort Macon.

Joshua and his dad started to race in Eastern North Carolina, and East Carolina Motor Speedway is where they landed, racing in the Modified 4-Cylinder class until Brian, Joshua’s dad, had a devastating crash which ended their racing season. But shortly afterwards, Joshua and his dad teamed up with “Big Jim” Kelley racing Super Late Models across North Carolina, accumulating many wins and championships from 2000 to 2004, when Brian got a car to get back on the track at ECMS.

After spending a year working on his dad’s new super-stock 4, at the end of 2005, Joshua found himself climbing into his own Ford Pinto Pure-stock 4. Joshua ran three races to get some time in a car before he made rookie campaign in 2006. In 2006, Joshua had an outstanding rookie season with a worst finish of 5th and 7 top 3’s. He also earned Rookie of the Year honors and 3rd place in points. In 2007, Joshua began the season with a new Ford Mustang, and the new car brought new success to Joshua and his team. He improved his worst finish to 4th, had 12 Top 3 finishes, and had his first win - being 1 of only 2 winners throughout the season. He also improved his final points positions, making him runner-up in the championship standings. In 2008, Joshua and his team were ready to win a championship, and they almost did - only finishing 11 points out of the championship. They went into the final and double points race by starting on the pole within 3 points of the points leader, but that day was just not their day and Joshua came home 3rd, but 2nd in championship standings. But 2008 was a great year for Joshua. He was again only 1 of 2 winners, but this time he brought home 6 wins and a worse finish of 3rd, with 14 top 3 finishes. In 2009, Joshua and his Josh Van Winkle Racing team will be competing in the Super Stock 4-Cylinder division at East Carolina Motor Speedway. He will be racing alongside his father, step-mother, and many other superstars of this class. Joshua will also be running some races at Coastal Plains Raceway Park in October and November. Joshua would like to thank all of his family, friends, and sponsors for their continued support throughout his racing ventures, and he is looking forward to moving up the racing ranks in the near future.
